HABITUALLY OBEY TRAFFIC RULES

How  we drive depends upon  what  habits,  good  or  bad,  we  have  developed over  time.

Its thought  that  no  habit can  be  erased  from  the  mind.  We can  only superimpose  another  habit  upon  it.

It  takes  21 days  to  cultivate  a habit.

So  to  cultivate  good  driving practise we  should  follow  all traffic  rules  for  this  much  time.

DOORACC.. THE ABBREVIATION FOR DOORING ACCIDENT

DOORACC CAN  BE  TAKEN  AS  THE  ABBREVIATION FOR  DOORING  ACCIDENTS WORLD OVER.

IT IS  BETTER  THAN  DOORING IN  THE  SENSE THAT DOORING IS MOST TAKEN  AS  A CRASH AND  NOT  AN ACCIDENT.

IN  DOORACC  THE  ACC  IMPLIES THAT IT  IS  SERIOUS ENOUGH AND  SHOULD  BE  TAKEN  AS  AN  ACCIDENT.

A NEW  NAME  MEANS A  FRESH PERSPECTIVE ON  THE  PHENOMENON.

CYSSA.. ABBREVIATION FOR PREVENTING SIDE STAND ACCIDENTS BY CHECKING IT

To  make it  easy  for  people to  revert to  scooter out  motorcycle accidents E have to  make  the  concept watt to  remember and  use.

I think the  abbreviation CYSSA  foots the  bill.

It  sounds  like  CEASE .

SO  CAN  BE  PRONOUNCED CEASE.. AA

Additional Safety for Rs. 40/-.. Attach a Buzzer

Many  motorcycles and scooter companies have provided the  side  stand indicator light  on  the  speedometer but  have  not  attached  a buzzer.

Hence many  riders  forget to  take  off  the  stand.  If  you  attach  a Buzzer  which  just  costs Rs.  40/- under  the  speedometer you  will  be  very  save.  Unless  you  take  off  the  stand the  buzzer  would  make  sound.

It's  a three  minute  job.

Just  spending  the  minutes will  keep  you  safe and save  you  your  life ,  health  and money.

IN  THE  NIGHT  WHEN THE  BLACK SIDE  STAND JUTTING  OUT  WOULD  NOT  BE  VISIBLE THE  APPLICATION  OF  TWO  PATCHES  OF  REFLECTIVE  TAPE IN  THE  MANNER  OF  SAFETY  STRIPE  WOULD  MAKE  IT  VISIBLE.  SO  IF  YOU  HAVE FORGOTTEN  TO  LIFT  THE  STAND  AFTER  STAYING  THE  MOTORCYCLE  YOUR  FAULT  / THE  OPEN  SIDE STAND  WOULD  BE  VIABLE  TO  OTHERS AND  THEY  MAY  WARN YOU.

YOU  REQUIRE  JUST  FOUR  INCHES  OF  THIS  2" WIDE  TAPE.  IT  COSTS  JUST  RS. 4/-.

MOBIKE FOR THE FUKRAS

Bullet motorcycle from Enfield is  very  popular with  Punjab youth.  The chief  reason  is  its  association  with  macho  image because  of  its  engine  power and  more  because  of  the  exhaust sound it  produces.

When  it  is  accelerated the  sound  is  ear  shattering .

In  my  opinion the  youth  loves  it  for  its exhaust  sound.  The  sound  announces  the  presence  of  a fukra ( showoff) .

To show off the  youth  goes  at  high  speed  and  acceleration and  many  a times  meets  with  accidents.

If  the  company  puts a good  silencer  to  muzzle  it's  sound  the  sales  will  fall  80%.

But  to  the  general public  a nuisance  will  be  gone.

Do  we  have  laws  governing  how  much  sound  a motorcycle  can  produce  at  the  most ?

UNIVERSAL SIGNAL FOR WARNING A MOTORCYCLIST FOR OPEN SIDE STAND

I think   that  a visual  signal  may help kid  we  put  up  small  boards  or  posters.
But  if  we  see  a scooterist or  motorcyclist  is  passing  you  with  his  side  stand  in  open  position  a Siren  or  hooting sound  will  reach  him  better.  Even  if  he  has  passed  you  he  can  listen  to  the  warning  sound  angry  check  his  side  stand  while  riding.

Skidding Season Ahead.. Deadly Drizzle

The  monsoon season  tests our  skill  and knowledge to  the  full.  Most  of  us  graduate into motorcycle  riding on  our  own  from  bicycle  riding  in  India.

20 years  back  I witnessed  an accident  on  Paver   road  near  Bahram  town.  It  was  a rainy  day .  Two  buses ,  two truck and  a car  had  bumped  into  each other.  The  directions  in  which  the   were  pointing  made  it  very  clear  that  they  had c skidded.  There was  muss  to  on  the  road.  On  enquiry  I found  that  the  drizzle  had  done  the  damage.  After  the  collision  of  a truck   and  two  buses others bumped  into  them  in  trying  to  cross them  by  putting  a set  of  wheels  onto  wet  soil and  then  getting  onto  the  road.

The  slippery  clay  soil was too much for  me  also  to  negotiate on  my  scooter  mig  my  wife  in  the  pillion.

On  discussing  the  matter  with  my wife's auncle  who  was  an ex pilot  of  the  Indian  Air  Force  I came  to  know  that  as  it  starts  training  in    drizzle  the  water  and  spilled engine oil from the  vehicles forms  a thin  layer which  makes  the  vehicles  skid.  While  landing  the   aircraft they  have  to  keep this  thing  in  mind.

So if  all of  a sudden  if it starts  training  in a drizzle we  have  to  allows  down  or better  let  it  rain  for  a few  minutes and  then take  to  the  road .

The  urge  to  get  to  our  destination  in  a hurry  when it has started drizzling puts  us  into  trouble.

Every Accident Is An Act Of Negligencpe

Travelling from Dharamshala  to  Mcleodganj I saw  a roadside board  had  " EVERY  ACCIDENT IS  AN  ACT  OF  NEGLIGENCE" written  on  it.

Particularly when  driving  on  hill roads  we  have  to  bed  very  cautious.  100% attention  is  required.    A fleeing  distraction  can  mean  death  to  all  the  occupants  of  the  vehicle .

I would  advise  that  no  songs  shpuld  be  put  on .  The  drive  should  be  taken  up  s an   in  meditation.  Your  whole  concentration  should  bed  upon  the  job  of  save  driving.

This  is  the  way  army  people  take  to  tasks.  The  boards  are  put  up  by  then.

CHAMBA KHAJJIAR ROAD , HIMACHAL PRADESH, RISKY.. ONLY FOR EXPERT MOUNTAIN DRIVERS

Last month on 29th afternoon having enjoyed our morning session at Khajjiar we wanted to go back to Dalhousie but we're told by taxi drivers that there is traffic jam 5kms before Dalhousie. Having already wasted an afternoon a day back when we had to return to Dalhousie just 2kms short of Khajjiar as there was traffic jam we took the road to Chamba on the advise of local fast food stall owners and taxi wallah.  The road is good we were told.  A distance of 22kms did not seem much.  But once we were on to it in our taxi I'm found the road to be very narrow and risky.  Many a places there was gravel on it.  Sitting in front I'm was keeping g an eye on the driver and reminded him to horn on blind turns.

Midway after Mangla  the road has steep descent for about 3kms.  The gorge on the right side presented a steep cut.  Hardly any trees to slow down or stop a vehicle if it slips over.  And then I saw a most unusual sign

" STEEP DESCENT,  BREAK MAY FAIR
KEEP YOUR VEHICLE IN 2ND OR 3RD GEAR ".

We got to Chamba safe and sound.

In my opinion there should be very strict /scary Warning slogans on Hill Roads.

One Is have in mind is

Don't Commit the First Mistake
No Chance for the second.

In Hindi

 यहा दूसरी गलती नही होती

 सो पहली से बचो

There is no second chance here.

The DC  has warned that this road  is only  meant  for  EXPERT MORNING DRIVERS.

but they  have  not  put  signs  at  the start  of  the  road  from  either  side .

T hree  years  back  1 1  Delhi  tourists  working for   India  News  channel  lost their lives when  a Tempo  Traveller  fell into  a gorge.

DOORING ACCIDENTS .. PREVENTION USING A MOBIKE INDICATOR BUZZER

Today was Eureka moment for me. After many months of search for a device to warn us when we are getting out of a car that we have to look for the safety of ourselves and others the thought struck me that its very easy.

Already a inner roof light goes on when the frontal doors are opened so all I have to do is to get a bell or buzzer fitted along with it. The thing cost me just INR 40/- . Another 40 for the electrician to fit it .

So the problem is gone for Rs. 80/-.
Forvthe back doors I need to get the electrical connections done as for the frint
 doors.

STICKER SAVES

Seeing many two wheeler riders  , scooterists

and motorcyclists forgetting to lift the side stand I used to go after them to remind them . My pulse would shoot as I took off after such souls fearing I may not be able to get to them on the crowded road before they disappeared on some side street .

There was an added danger of me meeting up with an accident during this chase.

Many a times in a day there would be 2-3 such sitings on the 28 kms of my daily travel from home to  office & back. This made me think of the statistical chance of leaving the side stand open. Having read Dr. Daniel Schacter's book " How The Mind Remembers and Forgets " I understood that people won't be able to remember to take their stand off even after  having suffered an accident because of such lapse I tried to find such devices in the market which could be fixed to the vehicle . Alas I could find none .

Few two wheelers come with devices showing side stand warning. Leaving the case of a LML mobike model which had gear clutch getting hooked by the side stand in open position all were electronic .

One fine day it dawned on me that pilots use a lot of check lists before they take off. So why cant a mobike / scooter rider do the same . Immideately I set off to the sticker making shop and got a few made .

Putting one such sticker on the fuel tank or the dash board of my friends I tried the idea. Till now in the last 8 months none of the 100 plus friends have reported having failed to take off their stands.

It cost me just Rs. 3 for a sticker .
Till the time our two wheeler manufacturers who don't install a  have a safety mechanism on their vehiclesthis should do .

In my view no vehicle should be allowed to be sold without safety devise. Secondly , in addition to all electronic devises a check out sign should be put on the dashboard.

Donating such stickers to riders would help the cause . Four wheelers can put bigger stickers at the back of their vehicles to remind the 2 wheel drivers .
